Waking up and looking at the blinking light that is on the power meter is so nice. Until it's not blinking when you wake up... Then you just know. You’re in load shedding. Luckily the power company publishes a schedule of when loadshedding is going to happen. But, this one wasn't on the schedule and it was lasting longer than two hours, which was extremely rare. After a few hours of not having power, we received a text from our complex group chat. Someone stole our power. Then they sent a video of our nearby substation with all of the components inside stripped out.. So, there were guys fixing it all day. Towards the end of the day, they had it running again!
This week we decided to make Magwinyas. We mixed all the ingredients together and then wrapped them in towels and blankets to rise! After that we cooked a bunch of them to eat! So lit! (We may have eaten a few of them American style (covered in powdered sugar and honey!) They were pretty good for making them for the first time.
We also had an opportunity to do some service! We mowed a lady's lawn. Well, kind of, we removed any green from the ground. People have two kinds of lawns down here. 1) They have a lawn that they weed eat. 2) They have dirt that they keep dirt. If anything grows, they use a spade "shovel" to remove it.
We were mowing the 2nd way. Using a shovel to remove anything that is living.
Church and the service:
Recently our teaching pool has become a little dry, we either gray dotted (Stopped teaching) or they were baptized. So, we were looking for a new group to start working with. We were having a hard time, but we were able to find some solid male priesthood holders to teach this week! In fact, some of them even came to church this week! It was super nice to have three newish guys in elders quorum listening to the lesson taking place!
Ambesa's Mission call!
One of our members got his mission call this week! He is going to Madagascar! I was so excited for him when he invited us over to watch him open it! It was a very special moment for me as the spirit testified to me that this is where I need to be. That the call I received is one of the most important calls I will receive. A sacred responsibility and sacrifice. One where it will allow for me to grow closer to our Savior than what I thought was possible.
Let it go, Let it go...
Just kidding, kind of. This has been a valuable lesson I have learned this week. Sometimes things just don't go the way you want them to. But when we get to the point that we can learn from when things go wrong and say we can do it better next time, that is exactly when we are going to start living happier lives. Obviously I'm not saying you need to let everything go, but learn from the things that go wrong, then apply that knowledge to make it better the next time.
Exchanges!
We were able to go on exchanges this week! Elder Morena came over to Motherwell and Elder Cluff went to KwaMagxaki. It was really fun leading out the area and teaching our wonderful friends more about the gospel with a greenie! He has only been out for a few months, but he is a beast! Sadly we did not get a picture for some reason.. So yeah. That's my bad.
I love you all and hope you enjoy the updates! Have a good week!
With Love,
Elder Lawrence
